There was a distinct chill in the air at Oval Park last Sunday morning. Lutts U13s has a double header playing both Ashby and then Oadby in a round robin.

Lutts v Ashby

Our boys made a sleepy start with a careless knock on at the kick off. Lutts then missed a few tackles to allow Ashby to score.
Moments later a poor defensive kick saw Ashby collect the ball, slip a few more tackles and score their second. As the half drew to a close, Lutts began to piece a few phases together and get into the game.

Lutts made a much sharper start to the second half. Good running lines from James Boyles and Matt Rigo led to a pass to Ollie who carried well and scored the first.

Lutts then turned over Ashby Ball as Sam Robinson stole the ball and ran the length of the pitch to score.

The dancing feet of Ben Neale almost got a deserved try but was held up over the line. From resulting scrum, Ashby kicked into our hands and The Ball found its was to Jake McClean who forced his way over in the corner.

The icing on the cake came when Owen ripped the ball out of a maul and appeared to carry the whole of Ashby with him on his back for a great try.

A wonderful second half performance saw Lutts turn it round into a big win 20-10.

Lutts v Oadby

Inspite of a long wait whilst Oadby dispatched Ashby, Lutts started brightly but Oadby pinched the ball in a ruck and raced through to score. Within a minute there was an overwhelming sense of deja vu as they scored a second.

A certain third was stopped by an amazing tackle by our fullbackJames on their star player.
However, Oadby didn’t have to wait long and a penalty move saw Oadby score a third as Lutts dropped too many tackles.

A blood injury to our second row stalwart Frank halted the game for a while prior to half time. Best wishes for a speedy recovery Frank!

Trailing three tries to nil at half time, Lutts were unfortunate to gift an interception try to Oadby early on in the second half. Try as we might, we couldn’t get back in the game and Oadby won 20-0.

A rollercoaster of a performance today with some real highs and plenty of scope for things to work on in training this week along with a welcome returning to bacon griddling for the match reporter....
