First Half: Burton 5 (1T), Lutterworth 7 (1T Trombas, 1C Trombas)
Full Time: Burton 17 (2nd Half: 2T, 1C), Lutterworth 24 (2nd Half: 3T Trombas x 2, Jones A., 1C Trombas)
Well - this all seems a little surreal. Lutts turn up for their last ever game as an age group, and first off have to trot through the streets of Burton and over the fields to play. The opposition however, Burton, were the perfect Club to sign off against. Burton have proved this season to be worth adversaries, two very hard fought previous encounters, played in a good spirit.
So our thanks to Burton to allow the Lutts one final game together. The game was not the most important factor of the day, though a win is always important, this was a day for the squad to celebrate what they have achieved, and for the hoards of supporters to show their appreciation.
Some of our squad have been ever presents since U6 tag days - indeed Scoop's final challenge to our avid readers is to identify which squad members actually had two years playing at U6 and thereby qualify as our longest serving members?
Our squad has grown and contracted throughout the years of Mini and Junior rugby, and there have been plenty of memories. There have been many changes also throughout the Coaching Squad over the years, and at times the boys have really suffered from a lack of continuity and have at times appeared to have been left behind in terms of development when measured against other clubs. But we are Lutts - and whatever adversity has presented itself the boys have remained honest to themselves, have dug deep, and have always been prepared to learn and get better. Scoop wishes to formally acknowledge and thank all of our previous Head Coaches and supporting Coaches for their time and commitment over all our years - Steve, Colin, Jason, Nigel, Henry, Ben, Tom, Andy, Luke, Graham, Stu, Kev, and Bean.
We have seen dark and cold training nights where only 4 players have regularly turned up, yet have climbed to the heights of this year where training nights have often numbered 20 players. Our current coaching staff have achieved amazing things this year, and a huge vote of thanks goes from Everyone to Kev, Stu, and Bean for sticking with us, making the hard decisions around selection, and developing the boys. That background of adversity, channelled into a more stable coaching set up has seen the boys develop tremendously this season. The amount of wins achieved this year have surpassed any previous season, and the manner of the wins has shown all the heart and grit that has been forged by this special group of players over the years.
Scoop signs off with a massive THANK YOU to all our very special players, Coaches, parents and supporters. The spirit of rugby has shone through and friends have been made for life. That special look and nod between the players will be there forever.
THANK YOU Young Men. It has been a wonderful 11/12 seasons, and an immense privilege to have been part of witnessing you grow.
Yours in Rugby, Scoop, signing off. Over and out.
WE ARE LUTTS !!!
