Lovely, lovely, lovely sunny morning as we found ourselves between the river and canal in Beeston for Lutts u12s v casuals, fielding a team of u12 and 13s. There were some big boys on their side and it was certainly going to be a challenge for our lads after two late nights and a dearth of any green veg. A Churchillian team talk from Mitch helped the boys focus and they were ready for action. Match 1 Casuals ko. Great team effort by Lutts , recycling ball and rucking well and Sam breaks free to score the first try of the tour. Then a Pick and go from ruck ball by Lennon followed by lovely try for digger. Pressure continued to be heaped on by Lutts and Matt was in for a try in the corner. Lutts kept going, great ripping by Owen, rucking was solid with whole team working hard. A fourth try came as part of a real team effort as Ollie offloads to James to finish in the corner. Lutts win 20-0 and put together a brilliant 10 mins. Could it last.....? Game 2 Lutts ko. Casuals take the ball and run length of pitch to score and the first signs of the night before starts to creep up! Lutts cough the ball up and same speedster is in again for a second. Mistake behind our line and they ground the ball to score from the resulting kick off. Lutts tried to fight back but a few tackles were missed and casuals made it in for a 4th. Lutts lose 20-0 Time for a dust down, and despite mounting injuries there was the opportunity for a final push! Game 3 Casuals ko. Great work by Jacob, a thorn in the opposition's side all day, to break away and run through but a foot in touch stops the try. However, Lutts keep fighting, win clean ball for Ollie to pass to James who engages afterburners for a try. Great teamwork all over the park and Matt breaks through to score a second. Lutts win 10-0 And that was your lot. A great weekend, capped by some marvellous rugby and the boys (and parents) will sleep well tonight!
