Lydney RFC announce new Club Captain (Official Press Release)
With Sam Arnott leaving the Severnsiders, Lydney RFC are proud to announce Dave Bennett as the new Club Captain. Dave is an experienced member of the squad having already played 180 games for the Severnsiders so will surly become a member of the elusive 200 Club this season. With Lydney having a young side Dave’s experience and guidance from the second row will be invaluable, his experience as a Teacher and Coach is sure to help with game management and those crucial on field decisions.
Speaking recently Dave commented ‘I am really looking forward to the challenge ahead; it’s a real honour to be captain of such an historic side. The fixture list is not kind with two away games at Keynsham and Thornbury but we should fear nobody in this league as we are easily capable of beating all the sides this season. I will be challenging the Players for good points in both these games so we are off to a good start. My aim will be to continue to play the entertaining Rugby that brought us success at the end of last season, our new style of using our athletic forwards to get our back line playing at pace is certainly our best style. Our aim has to be promotion and if we can avoid the large amount of long term injuries we suffered last season I see no reason why we cannot win the league.’
With Lee Forty continuing as Head Coach the Severnsiders are looking for a fast start to the Season, They kick off with two friendly fixtures at Regentsholme on August 22nd against Matson and 31st with Dowlais visiting before starting league fixtures with two away games.
