Any thoughts of a lucrative FA Cup run were snuffed out in Buckinghamshire on Saturday when Lydney fell at the first attempt in the extra preliminary round.
Hosts Risborough Rangers who play in the Spartan South Midlands Prem, won the game 1-0 having been reduced to 10 men after 25 minutes.
With Morgan Pratt pulling out in the warm up, Tom Baldwin made a start. Rich Thomas, Jack Rutter and Ross Lyndsay were all unavailable, Jack Knight made the bench.
The opening stages were very scrappy with a lot of niggling challenges committed by both sides. Referee Jackson had finally seen enough on 25 minutes and he brandished a straight red to defender Kedzierski following a kick out on Sam Elliott.
Lydney managed a couple of attempts before the break, first when Morley-Lyne tested Brooker from distance and then Thompson burst through only to shoot over. The half ended all square.
Sam Wines replaced Murphy after the break and the first 10 minutes saw Lydney push on. They created two great chances but both Johnson and Thompson failed to trouble Brooker when in on goal.
Keelan Hamblett replaced Palmer on 70 minutes but the hosts were growing in confidence not looking like a side a man down. Morley-Lyne made way for Finnan Hamblett for the last 10, but it was the hosts who had most possession.
Defender Joel Read missed two glorious chances when he flashed his headers either side of the post from corners.
It was Lydney's failure to deal with the supply of crosses from the right flank that was to be their downfall. When a delivery from Marcus Wyllie was blocked it was hastily returned into the area where Sean Coles, with his back to goal, sent a spectacular overhead kick that crashed into the net off the crossbar. Risborough managed the final minutes well and limited Town to sporadic attacks, none of which caused keeper Brooker any bother.
Another disappointing early exit for Lydney who will be hoping to do better when the FA Vase comes around in early September when Bristol based Hallen will visit the Rec.
