Lydney Town 2 Trowbridge Town 2
In front of a good Tuesday evening crowd Lydney started the game brightly and went in front on 5 minutes. Some neat play in midfield saw Adam Price set up a chance for Matty Timmins and when his effort was blocked on the goal line Niall Halford(pictured) was on hand to tap home. With everyone expecting a goal fest Lydney surprisingly lost their way and made a habit of giving the ball away enabling the visitors to push forward. They forced a couple of corners that came to nothing and at the other end Luke Clarke fired over when well placed. Trowbridge’s best effort was when goalkeeper Forster could only punch a cross to the edge of the area where it was volleyed back on target and Ricky Elliott cleared off the line.
Five minutes before half time Lydney increased their lead. Striker Halford cut inside from the left flank and drilled a fine effort inside the near post.
Trowbridge started the second half with a strong wind behind them and they made the most of the asset. On 50 minutes they reduced the arrears. A free kick from 18 yards was pushed out by Forster and ran kindly for Steve Hulbert to knock home. Lydney back four came under mounting pressure and during this spell Trowbridge hit the bar and the post and had another effort cleared off the line. Halford departed with an ankle injury on 68 minutes to be replaced by Mike Robbins. Trowbridge finally got a deserved equaliser 10 minutes from time. When Lydney could only clear the ball to the 18 yard line it fell invitingly for Tarick Yachou to hammer an unstoppable volley past Forster. Manager Neil Hook was disappointed to drop 2 points after being in front but agreed the draw was a fair result on the night.
