Lydney bagged their first 3 points on the road on Saturday, when Lee Smith's men won 3-1 at Hallen. The hosts were 10 unbeaten in all comps going into the game, so this was an excellent win for us. Although Town remain rooted at the bottom of the table, the gap between the bottom 5 sides is now only one point.
Smith had to start up front with players unavailable, but the veteran striker still managed to find the net.
The opening goal came on 36 minutes when Frankie Johnson threaded a superb ball into the path of Smith. Spotting the keeper off his line, Smith lobbed a great finish into the net. It remained 0-1 at the break.
Hallen put Lydney under immense pressure in the second period, and they grabbed a deserved equaliser on 72 minutes when Elliott Gardner slotted the ball under the on-rushing Causon to level.
Undeterred, Lydney kept their spirits up and scored a controversial goal 2 minutes from time. Morgan Ewing's effort was adjudged to have crossed the goal line with the home defence claiming it hadn't. Fortunately, the referee agreed with Lydney.
The icing was put on the cake when Arron Jenkins came off the bench to seal the points right on the final whistle.
Momentum gained, the task doesn't get any easier as Corsham Town visit Sansom Park on Tuesday night.
