Monday night saw us take the short trip to neighbours Windsor in the opening game of their league campaign.
With an unchanged side from the 8-1 win against Clanfield, the young Magpies started strongly and opened the scoring on 5 minutes when Lewis Boniface tucked the ball into the back of the net after some good work from Tommy Boyd.
After the goal Windsor came back into the game & it took a while for the young Magpies to assert further domination in the game.
On 22 minutes Marko Borkovic added to his 4 goal tally from the first game with some quick feet in the box & slotting last the keeper at his near post.
Just 3 minutes later it was 3-0, the ball was won back in midfield by Brandon Curtis who played a great through ball to Borkovic, his lob over the keeper was slightly deflected & fell into the path of Reece Smith who grabbed his first of the night.
After the third goal the Young Magpies dominated play & had some really good spells of possession playing out from the back well and carving out lots of opportunities.
Just three minutes before half time Smith scored his second of the night. After some trickery on the edge of the box & turning the defender inside out, he curled the ball left footed into the far post with a great finish.
HT - 0-4.
The young Magpies started the second half where they left off the first & extended their lead on 50 minutes. Boniface won possession back on the half way line, skipped past one player & went on a direct mazy run towards goal, only to be upended 22 yards out before he could pull the trigger. He dusted himself off & scores the resulting free kick, whipping the ball over the wall & into the top corner, great technique & finish!
After this the game went a bit sloppy & the home team could have scored only for the assistant referee to rule it out for a clear offside.
On 76 minutes Fraser Keetch younger brother of first team & academy graduate Brad Keetch, scored his first goal for the club. After some good link up play with Jack Gibson, Keetch struck a left foot shot with pace & whip past the despairing Windsor keeper.
FT - 0-6.
Youth Team Manager Christian Parker has this to say after the game: “It is great to get another 3 points this evening & to add more goals all of which were very well taken. However, we only played in parts during the 90 minutes & after the standards we set last week we were slightly under par & have some work to do ahead of a difficult two home games next week. That said this is a young team who are getting to know each other still & this will only improve with the more training sessions & games that we play.
Thanks again to all the support away from home & we hope to see as many of you as possible at York Road against Ascot (Monday 9/9) & Wokingham & Emmbrook (Thursday 12/9), to push the boys on to more success.”
