F.A.VASE HOODOO
Maine Road first entered the Vase in season 1982-83 when St. Dominics visited Brantingham Road winning 3-1. Since that game we have played a further 62 games, in 36 seasons and our results have gone from bad to very bad. THE TOTAL RECORD PLAYED 63 WON 20 DREW 7 LOST 36 GOALS F 103 A 120 The best season was 1994-95 when we reached the fourth round, only to have 2 sent off (Simon Savage, David Swindells) in a 2-1 defeat. The 2 players dismissed in a total of 456 apps for the club hardly committed any fouls, so you could imagine our thoughts about the referee. The other memorable thing to happen on the trip was that we met Johnny Wrights double, not a pretty sight. Nine defeats on the bounce from 1999 to 2008 undoubtley our worst run and we have only WON 3 TIMES in the last 19 seasons. We have had some marvellous trips, especially to the North East, it`s a great pity that games are more localized nowadays and we have made some great friends which have resulted in playing friendlies for the last 20 odd years with ST Dominics and Chrisleton .The last 2 defeats have come against Bootle(top of NWCL at the time) and Pontefract Collieries top of NECL, but overall it does not matter who we play we still generally lose. LET`S HOPE THE HOODOO SOON ENDS
