Saturday sees Road welcome promotion chasing Runcorn Town to Brantingham Road for a vital North West Counties Premier Division fixture.
Our opponents are very much in the hunt for promotion again after narrowly missing out last season, so we should be in for a cracking match as both teams will be looking for the 3 points. Road's visit to Runcorn last month didn’t go as planned with a rampant home side 3-0 up at half time, the only surprise being that Runcorn didn’t add any further 2nd half goals. Chris and John were understandably very disappointed by Road's display on the night but accepted that Runcorn were easily the best side they have faced all season. Our visitors have continued their good form and they have certainly improved their chances of promotion with the signing of striker Phil Howard from Wigan RP.
Following Road's defeat at Bacup the team responded well and recorded back to back wins in beating Barnoldswick at home followed by an excellent 4-3 win at league leaders Padiham last Saturday. Special mention must go to Road's winning goal scorer left back Matty Russell, who hasn’t looked like scoring even in training, but unleashed a ferocious cross shot into the top corner to win the game for Road.
We have this week lost the services of striker Tom Bentham who has decided to accept an offer from Evo-Stik Premier Division club Nantwich Town. Tom has worked very hard on his fitness and game in the 2 years at Road and despite the disappointment of losing him, Chris and John are pleased that he has got his chance to play at a higher level and everyone wishes him well at his new club. Road should have a full squad to select from which includes new signing Kyle Riley who signed last week from Ashton Utd.
Following today’s league match Road entertain Silsden on Monday evening looking to avenge January's away defeat, then travel to AFC Blackpool next Saturday for the delayed League Challenge Cup Quarter Final tie.
