ST.HELENS TOWN RES. 1 MAINE ROAD RES. 7
FOULDS 3, ROTHWELL 2 ,McKENZIE, KNIGHT Both teams were pointless before today`s game, so points were important . The first chance fell to new boy Haydn Foulds but his shot went over the bar. St.Helens responded with 2 corners and almost a goal, but Road just managed to clear their lines. After 10 minutes a long punt upfield by Ty Mills put Rhys Clooney through, who squared the ball for HAYDN FOULDS to slot the ball home. 2 minutes later Town were level from the penalty spot after TyMills pushed their forward in the back, when he was going away from goal in the corner of the box, giving the referee no option but to award a penalty. The Road were soon on the attack again, with Foulds having a great shot on the turn, which flew just over the bar. Jake Hirst then found Rhys with a good ball, which resulted in Rhys hitting the post. Just before halftime good play by Joab Thompson ended in HAYDN being upended in the box, and he slotted home the penalty . HALF TIME 1-2 After 55 minutes good play between Calum Broady and Joab allowed OMAR McKENZIE to round the keeper and increase the lead to 3-1. Alex Fowell made a great save to keep the score the at 3-1 ,before more good work from Broady found Rhys out wide, whose low hard cross found HAYDN at the far post for a tap in to complete his hattrick. CALLUM KNIGHT played a one two on the edge of the box and then rounded the keeper for a fine goal 5 – 1 to the Road. 75 minutes and Alex Fowell was brought into action again when he made a good penalty save diving to his right, following it up with an even better save to deny St.Helens, who even though they were being outclassed , were still creating chances. A short corner well worked by the Joes, Simmo and Rothwell ended up with ROTHWELL scoring at the near post and soon afterwards he blasted the ball into the top corner, to complete the scoring at 7 – 1
