We travelled to the Anchor ground, with probably the youngest and least experienced side we have ever fielded in the N.W.C.L.

We travelled to the Anchor ground, with probably the youngest and least experienced side we have ever fielded in the N.W.C.L. Of the 12 players who actually played on Saturday there were 2-22 year olds, 2- 21 year olds, 1- 20 year old, 2- 19 year olds , 1-18 year old, 3-17 year olds and 1 -16 year old. Experience wise Ryan Livesey (148 games), Matty Morgan (126 games) and Jack Langford (68 games) were the only players to have played over 30 games, with 10 of the players coming from the Reserve side. 3 players were in their debut season, with 16 year old Owen Pollitt having played more games in the First team than the Reserves. The pitch was in immaculate condition and the game started in bright sunshine, as Tom Keyworth found Matty Morgan with a good pass, whose shot was well saved by their keeper by the post. After good play on the right by Owen Pollitt, his cross was cut out, and then Morgy was caught offside after a good through ball. After 18 minutes Morgy timed his run better to get onto Jack Langfords pass and his shot cum cross was deflected into the net. Good link up play between Danny Burgess and Jack Langford ended up with Jacks 2 shots being easily saved by the keeper. After 25 minutes Darwen make Ryan make his first save, but 2 minutes later Jack Langford gives away a free kick just outside the box, which results with the free kick hitting the inside of the post and rolling across the goalline, where the Darwen forward taps the ball home. Ryan then came to the Roads rescue saving well with his feet, and from the resulting corner the no 6 heads over the bar. HALF TIME 1-1 Road start the second half brightly and Morgys cross is handled and the referee awards a penalty .Jack Poxon steps up and places the ball into the corner of the goal, sending the keeper the wrong way. A minute later Ryan keeps our lead in tact with a great save down to his right. Road now were beginning to take control and a great pass from Owen, led to Morgy hitting the side netting. After 67 minutes Danny Burgess was replaced by Chrysty O`Brien. Three minutes later Morgy makes a great run beating several defenders and rounding the keeper and then shoots, it dribbles towards the goal line where Chrysty taps it over the line, only to be given offside. The big question was would it have crossed the line, Morgy says yes, Chrysty says no. Road were now playing with great confidence and soon increased their lead , when after working a short corner between Tom and Morgy the resulting cross was tapped home by David Brown for his first goal for the club. Chrysty then breaks through, but hits the post and was then to greedy when he should have set Morgy up for a simple tap in. Ryan then had one of those moments shouting leave it, clear it, leave it but it ended with him making a great save. Overall a good performance from a young and inexperienced side
