Maldon and Tiptree again lost the lead twice in a home game this time to Ware in a fine game.

By Dave Garwood

Maldon and Tiptree FC v Ware FC Ryman League One North Tuesday 19 August 2014

The game soon opened up with Ware threatening first with Kieran Bishop getting possession from a right wing cross but then firing over when well placed in front of goal. Two goals in as many minutes then followed with the home side getting the first after 8 minutes when Joe Pearman beat the offside trap to get on the end of a long ball and strike a fine shot past visiting keeper Rhys Madden. The visitors then struck with an almost identical goal after 10 minutes when another long ball, this time through the home defence, left Albert Adu to go clear to strike his shot past the advancing Jack Giddens to hit the far post and go in. The home side retook the lead after 20 minutes when Jack Stevenson's free kick from the right edge of the penalty area was headed home by Leon McKenzie who had got up well against the visitors defence. The game then developed into a good contest with Ware's speedy forwards and quick passing testing the home defence but they held firm although Ware's Marcus Milner's dangerous cross needed to be well collected by Giddens. The visitors Khale Da Costa then went round three tackles but then saw his rather weak shot easily saved before a fine pass to the Jammers Sypho Mtyana saw him let fly from 25 metres and that could only just be parried away by Madden. The home sides McKenzie then almost left Madden embarrassed with a high dropping effort from wide on the right that almost crept into the top of the net before the keeper managed to just tip the ball over the bar then the half ended with Maldon and Tiptree's Gavin Greenfield heading a Stevenson corner just wide.

The home side had two early second half chances to put the game out of Ware's reach but after 46 minutes Pearman got through the visitors defence but then rather wastefully volleyed over from the edge of the penalty area before Stevenson, after 49 minutes, unluckily saw his fine free kick from all of 30 metres beat Madden but strike the bar and rebound out. The home side then had two close range efforts blocked before Ware responded with Milner's drive from 25 metres needing a good save from Giddens to turn the shot away. The away side then had the better of the play with some fine passing down and across the pitch. Ware's Albert Adu saw his speculative effort from 30 metres go wide before the visitors got their second equaliser after 69 minutes when Bishop, given far too much time and space, controlled the ball and turned well on the edge of the penalty area before getting a low shot away that finished in the far corner of the goal. Although the visitors were dominating possession it was the home side who created the better chances and both McKenzie and Ollie Berquez went close to increasing the home sides goal tally before the last ten minutes saw the Jammers come more and more into the game with another Stevenson free kick just being kept out at the foot of a post by Madden. McKenzie then headed Stevenson's corner wide before the visitors Bishop fired in a good effort from the edge of the penalty area that was just kept out by Giddens. A good game well controlled by referee Mr Parmenter ended with the Jammers still attacking but their last effort ended with substitute Mitch Hunter heading another Stevenson cross wide.
