Maldon and Tiptree Fc v Wroxham FC Ryman league One North Tuesday 9 September 2014
The visitors had by far the better of most of the first half and thankfully home keeper Jack Giddens was in top form and made a number of top drawer saves to keep his side in the game. No sooner had he rushed off his line in the first minute to collect a long through ball off Jamie Forshaw's toe than he needed to be alert to hold Remy Gordon's 20 metre drive. The visitors kept the pressure up with the lively Christy Finch's deep cross needing to be put behind by home defender Danny Johnson before Finch saw his fierce cross shot from the edge of the area go just wide of the far post. Wroxham's Forshaw then beat the home defence's offside trap but fired wastefully over before the visitors deservedly took the lead after 21 minutes when the home defence made a hash of clearing Remy Gordon's free kick and the ball came off a home defender to give Forshaw a fairly easy chance to lash the ball home. The home sides patient passing game was getting little reward with hardly any goal chances being produced and it took until the 23rd minute for their first effort to register when Kyle Asante's 20 metre shot was fairly easily saved by visiting keeper Elliot Pride. Wroxham continued to dominate with their neat pass and move game giving the home side a bit of a hard time and Gordon broke clear on the left and his cross was just cleared then Forshaw found himself in a similar position but wasted the chance by firing too hard a centre across goal. A rare attacking move from the home side saw Paul Burnett's shot from outside the box just go past the post before Wroxham's Finch missed a great chance when his close range shot was just blocked and then the rebound was held by Giddens. The Jammers best effort of the half came after 32 minutes when Sam Gregory fired a shot in from the edge of the box and keeper Pride just managed to push the ball away. Towards the end of the half the visitors Finch put Forshaw through with a clear run on goal but Giddens came out well to block the shot before a good move by the home side saw a great cross from Gregory just headed over by Thomas Hayes.
Half Time Maldon and Tiptree FC 0 Wroxham 1
Whatever home manager Terry Spillane had to say to his team at half time was almost nullified straight from the kick off but luckily Giddens made another fine stop to push away Forsahw's effort after the visiting forward had got clear of the home defence. Wroxham's Tim Cary then tried his luck from 25 metres but Giddens saved fairly easily before the home side at last started to apply some pressure on the visitors defence and a long throw gave Asante an opening but he fired over. For all the increased pressure from the home side the visitors were still dangerous and increased their lead on 69 minutes when again the home defence was found wanting when they had a number of chances to clear Daniel White's ball into the box but failed to do so and Remy Gordon pounced on the loose ball to fire home from close range. The introduction of Jammers substitutes Joe Pearman and Jack Stevenson (pictured) enlivened the home side and balls started to be got up to the front men much quicker. Pearman soon got a good effort into the near post that Pride saved well to push round the post before home keeper Giddens pulled off his best save of the game after Forshaw again beat the home sides offside trap to go clear on goal but with only Giddens to beat the keeper pulled off a great block to keep the ball out. Maldon and Tiptree's pressure was eventually rewarded after 85 minutes when a long cross into the visitors penalty area was knocked down for Stevenson to fire home into the corner. Intense pressure for the remaining minutes from the home side saw Ollie Berquez heading a good chance over before Stevenson's free kick was also headed over by Danny Johnson.
