Maldon and Tiptree's reshaped team falls to resurgent Redbridge

Ryman League One North Redbridge FC v Maldon and Tiptree FC Saturday 4 October

After the Jammers fall to a 4 goals to one defeat the new manager Alan Kimble, although not at the match, will now realise the considerable job he has to get his team back on the winners trail and climbing up the league.

The match was delayed in starting due to a pre match injury to the referee and both teams started hesitantly especially the visitors who fielded a side with a number of new faces. The home sides Chinedu McKenzie got in the first attack when, from Vinny Murphy's free kick, he shot wide when well placed at the far post before Redbridge's Ryan Carolan fired over from the edge of the area. McKenzie then fired wastefully wide after Brian Moses's flicked header had made the opening before the visitors responded with Kyle Asante heading Jack Stevenson's corner wide. After neither side had produced a clear chance from open play it was no surprise that the first goal came from a set piece after 30 minutes when Carolan's corner for the home side found Charlie Parish unchallenged as he charged onto Carolan's flag kick to head a strong effort into the roof of the net.. Maldon and Tiptree's Ollie Berquez made a welcome return to the team and he almost put his team level but after getting possession just outside the area he put his volleyed effort just wide of the far post before visiting keeper Tom Warren was called on to save a Moses low shot with his legs. A rather low key half ended with the Jammers Stevenson firing a shot just wide from the edge of the area before the home sides Shane Wallace received from a long free kick to cut inside but then see his shot go wide of the far post.

Two controversial incidents at the start of the second both went against Maldon and Tiptree when first, home keeper Jack Avery came charging out of his penalty area and clattered into visiting forward.Asante but the referee showed just a yellow card rather than red and then shortly afterwards a good move by the visitors ended with Michael Al-Shakily knocking the ball into goal but a home defender clearly kept the ball out with his hand but again the referee failed to take the correct action. The visitors were having a good share of the play and could again have got a goal back when Stevenson's free kick into the box saw a shot blocked on the line before a follow up effort was narrowly diverted off for a corner. Redbridge's lanky attacker Moses had caused problems in the air for the visitors defence all game and he narrowly headed Leon Smith's cross over the bar from close into goal before the visitors again attacked with Nathan Koranteng going on a good run down the right but his fine cross was just too high for the leaping visitors man of the match Mitch Hunter.
The visitors onus on attack left them short at the back and they paid dearly with a second goal for the home side after 84 minutes when
home substitute Dapo Abitogun played a long ball through a static defence to McKenzie who turned his defender before volleying home from the penalty spot. Just a minute later the visitors got the goal their second half performance deserved when Cliff Akurang, pushed up from defence, got on the end of a long ball to shoot well past Avery. After pulling themselves back into the game the visitors committed defensive suicide when, just a minute later, they conceded a third goal when they failed to clear an innocuous ball into the area and Carolan was left free to push home from close range. A fourth goal for the home side deep into added time perhaps flattered them but McKenzie won't mind about that as he doubled his goal tally when receiving further substitute Daniel Chambers's long ball and moving forward to plant the ball beyond the advancing Warren.

Final score Redbridge FC 4 Maldon and Tiptree FC 1

With more players coming and going it is going to take some time for the Jammers side to settle down and get used to the new managers methods but hopefully he can get everyone pulling together to get us back on the winning trail and climbing back up the table.
