Jammers go nap at AFC Sudbury

AFC Sudbury v Maldon and Tiptree FC Bostik league One North Tuesday 5 March 2019

For the second game running Jammers manager Wayne Brown named an unchanged starting line up.

Although Sudbury had the better of the early play it was the visitors Laste Dombaxe who got the first effort in on goal but his 20 metre shot was saved by home keeper Paul Walker before the home attack featured with full back Ros Crane prominent. He got an early good cross in from a short corner routine that visiting keeper Ben McNamara just held then Ben Hunter fired in a good 20 metre drive that McNamara again saved. The home sides Phil Kelly then set up Hunter with a good reverse pass but he fired over from a promising position then a good home passing move ended with Kelly hitting over from wide right. In the 19 minute, after the visitors had not really threatened much, they took the lead when a fine passing move up the pitch saw Jorome Slew get possession outside the home penalty area before moving forward to send a fine low shot into the far corner of the net. The goal enlivened the away side with both teams showing some good skills on Sudbury's 3G surface but the home side wasted their best chance of an equaliser when Kelly got away down the left before crossing to Isaac Skubich with plenty of time and space in front of the Jammers goal but he snatched at his chance and sent the ball over the bar. Sudbury would rue the miss as the Jammers added a second goal after 35 minutes with a goal of the game contender from Slew when he picked up a loose ball fully 30 metres from goal before hitting a great effort into the top corner where Walker got up well to get his hands to the ball but could not prevent the ball hitting the back of the net. Just 3 minutes later the home side pulled a goal back when Kellys shot was charged down and the ball fell kindly to put Tom Maycock through and clear on goal and he finished well into the corner. A 3 goals in a 5 minute spell was finished after 40 minutes when a left wing corner from the visitors Dombaxe was curled into a crowded goal area where a couple of forwards saw their close range efforts blocked before the ball eventually found its way into the net after which a number of players claimed to be the scored but it was officially given, rather unfortunately,as an own goal by keeper Walker

Playing some forceful football on a surface that really suited their quick passing style the Jammers really upped their game as the second half started and Slew was unlucky to see his first time shot somehow blocked by a home defender before the same player fired just wide after Liam Hope had created the opening. Slew then turned to possible goal maker when he beat defenders to get to the by line but his dangerous low cross went across the goal area with no one getting a touch before on 52 minutes the game was seemed to be put out of Sudbury's reach with another goal of the game contender. Oluwatobi Coker had only came on as a substitute at half time but he soon featured when the ball was played down the right from where Coker somehow twisted in midair to hit a volley from quite an acute angle for the ball to fly into the net from 15 metres. Further substitute Eddie-Louis Dsane then got well into the game to fire in a fierce shot that Walker did well with to put the ball round the post before, from the resultant corner, Slew saw his shot well pushed away by Walker. Sudbury, although being pushed back, did get some attacking play going and Kelly saw his shot blocked before the rebound was fired back from close range for this to be just cleared then Liam Bennett advanced well down the right before seeing his good low cross just missed by two colleagues as they ran at goal. Home keeper Walker then excelled with a great block to keep out Matthew Briggs's strong shot after Callum Anderson had carved out the chance before Slew showed dazzling skills to get past three defenders before seeing his goal bound effort deflected just over the bar then Dsane drove into the penalty box before seeing his shot go just wide of the far post. Dsane did manage to get his name on the score sheet after 84 minutes when the ball was played over by Briggs and helped on to where Dsane was on hand at the far post to head the ball home. Maldon and Tiptree keeper Ben McNamara was called into action late in the game after home substitutes Paul Hayes and Jordan Blackwell combined to give the latter a shooting chance that saw McNamara turn the ball round the post before the last word went to the visitors when Dombaxe saw his shot from the edge of the penalty area saved by Walker at the far post.
