After bombarding the home side for 80 minutes without much success, Maldon and Tiptree finally secured their winning goal on 90 minutes

Brentwood Town FC v Maldon and Tiptree FC Tuesday 20 August 2019

After last Saturday's win over Soham Town Rangers, Jammers boss Wayne Brown made just one change to his starting line up with impressive substitute Hanza Kaid coming in for Chevron Mclean.

On a fine looking pitch and in front of a good crowd the visitors made the stronger start with Charlie Hughes getting down the left before firing in a strong low shot that home keeper Tim Brown just stopped with his legs at the near post then from the rebound Hughes skewed his shot wide then from a corner Hanza Kalid put in a good low effort but this flew just wide. The home side then threatened with a free kick that just skimmed off Ryan Cosson's head to fly just wide. The major turning point of the game came after only 10 minutes when Brentwood's Jack Edwards was shown a straight red card for a tackle just on the halfway line. The visitors quickly picked up the initiative with Kaid finding plenty of room down the left to threaten the home defence and he tried two efforts that were narrowly wide. The Jammers pressure proved successful after 22 minutes when Kojo Awotwi played in Tyrique Hyde to move across the penalty area before hitting a strong shot that Brown could not hold and Hughes pounced to score against his old club with a low shot from a narrow angle. Maldon and Tiptree continued to press and Kaid again got away down the left before finding Hughes but his shot was just blocked by a defender before Hughes put the rebound over then Danny Parish was unlucky to see his header cleared off the line by a Brentwood defender after Hyde had created the chance. Brentwood's Andy Freeman then put in a rare goal bound effort but his 25 metre free kick flew straight to visiting keeper Ben McNamara before, from out of nowhere, Brentwood were gifted an equaliser, after 29 minutes, when a simple back pass was played straight back to the feet of lurking Brentwood forward Jason Williams by McNamara and the home forward had no trouble scoring into an open net. Maldon and Tiptree then went on to dominate possession but were unable to break down the home defence that virtually pulled everyone back at the slightest sign of danger in order to protect their precious point. The one dangerous moment came when Laste Dombaxe hit a great strike from fully 25 metres that Brown, with an athletic save, just tipped over the bar.

Half Time Brentwood Town FC 1 Maldon and Tiptree FC 1

It was almost all one way traffic towards the Brentwood goal in the second half but the visitors were guilty of some poor play with misplaced passes, passes played too long and being caught offside with just Tariq Issa's effort from 25 metres going just over then Danny Parish's shot which was well blocked by Brown proving any real danger to the home goal. It was not till the last 15-20 minutes as the home side tired that the visitors started to cause some concerns to the home defence that was defending valiantly with Stephane Ngamvoulou getting over a fine cross that Parish just failed to convert when in front of goal then the best chance of the half saw Awotwi putting Hughes through and free on goal but Brown pulled out a good block with his feet to divert the forwards shot away. Hughes was then handed another opportunity from Dombaxe's cross but he headed wide before late on the home side produced the one scare for the Jammers when Joe Seabrook wriggled clear but McNamara atoned for his earlier lapse with a good diving save. Just a minute from the end of normal time it really did look as though all Brentwood's work would be rewarded when a bizarre period of play in the home goalmouth saw a close range shot just blocked then another effort was stopped on the goalline before the rebound flew gently straight into a grateful Brown's arms. However, in a cruel blow to Brentwood, the Jammers did manage to score right on the stroke of the end of normal time when Awotwi's cross was headed towards goal where Brown pulled off a fine save but the loose ball found its way to Parish and he gleefully forced in a deserved winner. Parish almost added a late goal when he got down to the byline before firing in a goal bound shot that again Brown kept out with his foot.
