Maldon and Tiptree completed a fairly comfortable win over Basildon United

Maldon and Tiptree FC v Basildon United FC Saturday 14 September 2019

There were three changes from last weeks winning line up at Histon with Al-Amin Kazeem, Jorome Slew and Joe Wicks coming in for Rob Girdlestone, Lance Atkins and Stephane Ngamvoulou.

After last weeks fine win against Coggeshall, Basildon's buoyant mood was very quickly dented when it took just two minutes for the home side to take the lead. Laste Dombaxe swung in a fine free kick from outside the right hand side of the penalty box and Charlee Hughes rose well to nod a good header into the corner. Just a couple of minutes later Hughes almost grabbed his second goal from an almost identical position but this time Tyrique Hyde's centre was marginally too high for the stretching forward. Basidon's Joseph Paxman then responded with a good run through but he was just thwarted by home defender William Cracknell's out stretched boot as he forced the ball away but really the visitors struggled to make much inroads into the home defence and did not manage to create any goal scoring chances for much of the first half with the home side often looking likely to add to their score. The Jammers Dombaxe hit a 20 metre free kick straight at visiting keeper Louis Hawes then Joe Wicks's through ball found Danny Parish in a good position but he pulled his shot across goal and wide of the far post. Jorome Slew then put in a strong run that ended with a low 20 metre drive that went wide before Hyde and Dombaxe combined to get Hughes free down the middle but he lost control and the chance was gone. Maldon and Tiptree secured their second goal after 36 minutes
with a fine through ball by Dombaxe to Hyde who showed fine control to take the ball on and fire a strong shot into the top corner from just inside the penalty area. Dominating the rest of the half the Jammers continued to make goal scoring chances but the ball just did not seem to run kindly for them with efforts just wide of goal or last ditch defending by the visitors preventing any further score.

Half time Maldon and Tiptree FC 2 Basildon United FC 0

What turned out to be Basildon's best spell of the game came at the start of the second half with two efforts on goal---the first of which saw Adam Vyse turn well before getting away a good 20 shot that home keeper Ben McNamara had to palm over the bar then when Ernest Okoh was put through and clear on goal but McNamara was off his line quickly to avert the danger with a good sprawling block to force the ball away. Basildon were made to regret those misses when the home side added a further goal and almost put the game to bed after 55 minutes
when Quba Gordon's excellent strong run from out of defence took him past a number of visiting defenders and ended with a good ball forward to Slew and he was able to go on and fire powerfully home from 10 metres. A couple of minutes later Slew was again involved when Parish's quick cross from the right was met by him with a strong first time volley that flew across goal to again find Parish who shot wide. The visitors task was almost made impossible after 61 minutes when Okoh was shown a straight red card for a quite dreadful challenge on Al-Amin Kazeem which left him unable to continue and he had to be substituted for Lance Atkins. The numbers disparity saw the home side getting forward even more and Slew's strong 25 metre shot was just parried out by Hawes then Dombaxe's low short corner was volleyed against the bar by Parish before rebounding out. Slew then put in a long run down the left before shooting from the edge of the penalty area and Hawes only kept it out with his outstretched boot before Cracknell hit in a fine effort that just cleared the angle of bar and post.
