Maldon and Tiptree completed a comfortable victory over Felixstowe and Walton with an unfortunate own goal and 5 classy goals of their own

Maldon and Tiptree FC v Felixstowe and Walton FC Isthmian League One North Saturday 1st February 2020

Before the game Maldon and Tiptree were presented with two trophies for their performance in this seasons FA Cup with particular regard to their tremendous win at League Division 2 Leyton Orient.

With another injury to one of his regular centre backs, Jammers boss Wayne Brown was forced to play defensive midfielder Daniele Collinge at the centre of his defence and introduce Billy Cracknell and Al-Amin Kazeem at fullback. Another change from the midweek win against Merstham was Conor Hubble's recall in place of Charlee Hughes. On a strong looking bench the Jammers included new signing Jake Cass.

An explosive start by the home side saw them taking the lead after just 6 minutes when a slick move down the right found Billy Cracknell and his fine low cross was slotted home well off Jorome Slew's deadly boot. The home side continued to dominate the play but had little luck in breaking through a hard working Seasiders defence. Danny Parish and Ryan Charles just failed to convert form reasonable chances and Slew went close again with a fierce effort that flew just wide. The home side went two goals up after 26 minutes when the ball was worked down the Jammers left before Slew managed to get in a loping cross that visiting defender Samuel Nunn completely misjudged and finished up firing the ball into the top of his own net. The visitors managed to keep the home side at bay for the rest of the half with only Al-Amin Kazeem's low shot from 25 metres that flew just wide and a couple of dangerous free kicks causing any problems.

Any hope of a comfortable second 45 minutes for the home side were shattered after just 5 minutes when the visitors Armani Schaar wriggled his way into the home penalty area before seeing his strong cross shot saved by Ben McNamara then, with the ball not really being cleared from the danger area, with the visitors took full advantage to return the ball into the middle from the right and there was Oliver Canfer to convert from close range. After the visitors George Clarke had put a 20 metre effort just wide and working so hard to get back into the game the visitors shot themselves in the foot by conceding another goal just a minute later. The home sides Slew was given time and space to get down the right and his run was carried on by Ryan Charles who cut inside before firing in a fine low shot into the far corner from outside the penalty area. On 55 minutes the strong swirling wind played a crucial role in the Jammers fourth goal when a visitors clearance almost stopped in mid air before falling kindly for Slew who showed good control to volley past keeper Charlie Beckwith and into the near corner. With his last action of the day Parish hit just over from 20 metres before the visitors got themselves back into the game after 64 minutes when a free kick from the left side of the penalty area was badly missed by McNamara and his defenders to leave Clarke a simple task of scoring into an open net. Apparently the visitors had not learnt their lesson from previously pulling a goal back and conceded again inside just one minute when the ball was played short to Conor Hubble and his ball in was expertly converted by earlier substitute Charlee Hughes. The visitors Schaar and Clarke then managed to put each other off as a clear opening appeared in the home penalty area but the ball was quickly cleared before Jammers new signing Jake Cass signalled his introduction from the bench to receive a free kick on the edge of the penalty area before turning well but his shot lacked strength and Beckwith easily saved. On 85 minutes the home side fully wrapped the game up with another very well taken goal when substitute Hamza Kaid played the ball out to Slew wide on the left and Slew's return pass was controlled by Kaid before cutting inside and curling an effort from the penalty area edge just inside the far post.
