Maldon & Tiptree suffered a derby day defeat, as Heybridge Swifts collected their first win of the season.

Manager, Wayne Brown made a number of changes from the previous defeat to Hashtag United. Brian Moses and Ted Collins made their first competitive start for the Jammers, whilst Sam Cornish started for the first time since returning on loan. Laste Dombaxe was also restored to the starting XI, after missing out last time.

The hosts appeared to have a spring in their step, in their first match since confirming Steve Tilson as their new manager. Arguably, Swifts should have been ahead in the opening stages, about debutant, Collins was on hand to make a number of impressive saves. Inside the opening fifteen minutes, the Jammers did create chances of their own, with both chances falling to Moses, who was unable to convert from close range of both occasions.

After 16 minutes, Tilson's side had their first goal. As Archie McFadden broke down the right hand side without company, Heybridge managed to cross the ball in to a dangerous area, which located striker, Andrew Fennell all alone, who had plenty of time to blast the ball beyond the helpless Collins. Just moments later and Swifts had another glorious chance to extend their lead, but Collins in the Maldon goal made a fabulous save to deny Adam Topley what would've been a crucial goal.

Having struggling in the opening thirty minutes, Brown's side began to grow in to the game as half time approached and three minutes before the interval, they levelled the game. Smart play from Charlee Hughes and Lordon Akolbire, resulted in Akolbire delivering a delicious cross in to the box, on to the foot of an unmarked, Shomari Barnwell at the far post who volley his effort in to the ground and then the net, beyond Chafer who perhaps should've done better. The Jammers were level at the break, thanks to a superb debut performance from young, Collins.

HALF TIME: Heybridge Swifts 1-1 Maldon & Tiptree

With the words of Brown ringing in their ears, the Maldon players would've been hopeful that they goal on the stroke of half-time would turn the tide for the second half. Despite starting on the front foot, the Jammers unfortunately found themselves behind six minutes to the half. As the Maldon defence sat a little deep, Dylan Logan cut in from the right hand side, struck the ball from distance which took an unfortunate deflection, leaving Collins stranded as the ball rolled in to the opposite corner of the net.

The Jammers responded instantly, but were unable to find a way past Chafer who made a smart save to deny Brian Ifenayi, who was giving the Heybridge full-back, Joe Claridge a torrid afternoon. As his side searched for an equaliser, Brown made a double change with Malachi Napa and John Gilbert replacing Barnwell and Dombaste, with a slight chance in tactics. The chances began to flow at both ends, with both sides intent on attacking, Khanye blasted his effort wide, whilst Adlington-Pile missed a glorious chance at the home end. Moses found himself on goal for the Jammers, but he sent his effort wide, when really he should've at least tested Chafer.

Napa won and took a free-kick around 25 yards from goal and forced a great save from Chafer, as the home defence were left to cling on to their lead. However, they didn't hold their lead for long as in the 71st minute, Charlee Hughes converted a cross from Akolbire to level the game once again - a superb finish from the big front man. Both sides were now determined to push forward and find the winning goal.

Maldon were unable to capitalise on a number of set pieces and were dealt a sucker punch, by their local rivals in the 92nd minute. As the hosts broke from a Maldon corner, the Jammers defence was wide open. Collins made a great save to deny Adlington-Pile from range, but the visiting defencing was caught napping. Heybridge kept their attack alive and the ball flashed across the six yard box, to an unmarked, Daniel Walker to tapped home from close range to hand his side their first win of the season.
