He's only gone and done it.

Many thought the day would never come, something to be remembered by only a lucky few. The boo boys had been circling and the forums were on fire with abuse but today would be the day, the day when Matthew Asher finally managed to bag himself a goal!!

However, things were not looking so promising early on. The pitch was good and the early morning rain had made it perfect for fast flowing football but it became apparent in the warm up that it may take a while for us to get into our game. That turned out to be the case.

A little over 10 minutes into the game and after a scrappy start, City took the lead. One of their roaming midfielders picked up the ball on the right and cut inside, finding himself in space. With few options available, he chose to take on a speculative long range effort which looped high over DAN and into the top corner. Worldy number 1. It was going to be one of those mornings.

A few minutes later and the game had continued in the same vein. Nothing much was sticking and the ball was like a hot potato. After some scrappy play in the middle, the ball fell kindly to another one of the City midfielders. Slighty more central but at a similar range to the first, another midfielder, inspired by the earlier effort chose to take a swing at it. Unfortunately for us, the swing was perfect and the ball flew up and away from DAN and into the top corner. Worldy number 2.

After a close start, we hadn't done much wrong but were 2 down. Time to start playing. We finally managed to get a foothold in the game and after a few chances from free kicks and corners, a clear opportunity finally arrived. SPY picked up on the ball on the left, cut inside and saw MATTY peeling away from the defender. A perfectly weighted through ball saw him find pace not seen since 2006. The keeper rushed out but couldn't get there before MATTY slotted the ball in off the post from 20 yards. The wait was over!

A few more half chances were created at both ends but the half finished at 2-1.

FERGIE decided to make some tactical changes, swapping RHODES for GAV, which meant moving MITCHELL into the number 10 role, D into midfield and GAV into his usual spot as defensive enforcer.

Before everyone had even settled into position, City restarted the game and the scorer of the first set off on a jinking run try to score a Kick Off goal. Anyone who plays FIFA or Pro Evo knows these should be banned but luckily for us, we didn't have to convince the ref as DAN pulled off a good save to keep us within one goal.

After that early scare, we started to get our game going and City struggled to contain the passing, movement and battling all over the park. After a decent shift, MATTY's groin decided to pack up again and on came BROWNY. Chances started to arrive and from a set piece, the ball dropped to BROWNY who laid it off to MITCHELL to side foot it home through a packed 6 yard box.

We started to sense a chance of victory and had them on the back foot. A man who hadn't struggled to find the net recently was NATH but after a few weeks off, riding elephants and fighting off monkeys with his selfie stick, he seemed to have lost his range. A couple of long range efforts sailed over the bar, one in particular which ended up in a garden a few streets down. However, those sighters led to a better effort. Some brilliant one and two touch passing from the left freed Nath through the middle. He went hard and low this time but the keeper managed to get down to his right to tip wide.

City were still dangerous on the break and had a couple of efforts on the counter. The number 7 once again coming close with a lob. With the game finely in the balance, one final chance fell to BROWNY but his attempts to round the keeper saw the ball just run out with the goal at his mercy.

All in all, a good point.

A special mention goes to James (not me, obviously) for putting in a good performance to claim the MOM.
