Mini & Junior Rugby 1 of 6

1. Overview

Mini and Junior Rugby covers players from 5 – 18 years of age

Manchester Rugby Club is a fully accredited Kids First Rugby Clubs in the North West. This honour was given to Manchester over 5 years ago when the Rugby Football Union introduced a new program aimed at giving children, aged 6-13 years the opportunity to prosper by fostering an environment for having fun, learning and building confidence.

Manchester was one of the first to receive the honour as we have always put children’s development at the heart of how we coach. Fun and safety are the most important things when developing young children playing rugby. We firmly believe children gain a great deal from being part of a sporting social environment and we want to help develop children both physically and socially through being part of a team.

Our coaching approach focuses on developing skills and confidence through play. We want to see children playing as much rugby as possible and not standing around doing boring drills. Learning through play is the best way to learn and we keep young players engaged and having fun by this approach.

Our motto is “Let them Play” because it’s their game, not the coaches, the parents, or the clubs. “It’s their game so let them play”

We do not have a “win at all costs” mentality because developing players and young people is not all about winning but more being part of a team, developing friendships and learning together.

The approach works for us. MRC M&J have produced more current professional players across the Premiership, Championship and Pro14 than any other club in England, including current England and Sale Sharks stars Sam & Luke James; and England international Ben Spencer. We have seven players in the Sale Sharks U18 Academy, and produced over 70 County Level players in the last 6 years. Our teams have also won numerous Lancashire Cups at many different age groups, including multiple Lancashire Cup wins in the recent seasons.

So if you like the above and want to see your child develop both physically and socially in a fun safe and player focussed environment, then bring them down to Manchester and join in, or contact the coach from your child’s age group, the details are on each age group home page. If you are wondering which age group your child is in there is an age group guide below.
