Manchester FC are pleased to announce the retention of Club Captain Danny Carlton for the 2011/12 season.

Carlton who will now enter into his third season as Captain at Manchester, ended last season being named by the Rugby Paper as National 2 North's scrum half of the year, as well as achieving his first senior cap for Cheshire.

Elaine Vassie, Manchester FC Director of Rugby said, “I am delighted that Danny has opted to stay at Manchester, in what looks to be a very exciting season for the club. As a player he has proven himself over the past two seasons as someone consistently capable of creating and executing opportunities as well as being defensively solid in challenging circumstances. Due to Danny's attitude and work ethic I can only see this developing further, which when combined with the new signings to be announced shortly makes for a very exciting squad for the season ahead. As a 1st XV Captain he has consistently lead by example on and off the pitch, inspiring his team mates, and being a true asset to the club. I know myself, the coaching team and his team mates are looking forward to having him on board as we enter into an eagerly anticipated phase of redevelopment for the club"

On commenting on his acceptance of the Captaincy, Danny said

“I’m very proud to have been given the chance to lead Manchester into the 2011-2012 season. Personally, this last season was a big step forward for myself and I had decisions to make over the summer as to where I would be best to further capitalise and continue developing as a player. My time spent working with Elaine and Briggsy this past season I feel has served me strongly as a player and right now, my development is vitally important to me - it’s for this reason that I am happy to have been given the opportunity to re-sign with the club. The calibre of the coaching team in position for the forthcoming season assures me that I’m at a place where exciting and ambitious players will be given their best chance to realise their true potential - something I want to be a part of.

We have a fresh season ahead of us that as a group, everyone is relishing already. We have maintained our squad from last season, recruited strongly and are continuing to do so. With the talent across the squad and the fantastic openings available that will see even more quality players join in time, I can’t wait to begin work towards the season ahead.”
