Welcome to Manchester U10s Homepage!

At Manchester Rugby Club we are proud to be part of the “Kids First” Rugby philosophy. The emphasis is on making sure the kids have fun learning rugby, and their safety and enjoyment always come first.

New players are always extremely welcome to join this friendly and progressive club that is run for its members, by its members.

We meet on Sunday mornings at 10:00 and sessions finish by 11:30.

  • To be eligible for U10’s your son or daughter must be 9 years old on 1st September 2019 (i.e. Year 5 at school)
  • Gum shields are mandatory. Please ask if you need some advice about mouth guards
  • At this age we play Contact Rugby which means that we are tackling and learning to ruck, maul and scrummage. All activities are age-appropriate and we can talk you through what this means at this age group.
  • Please bring a drink and a snack for your child

The core skills of Rugby don't change: PASSING, CATCHING, TACKLING, RUNNING and EVASION are crucial and we develop these skills through targeted games and maximising fun.

Our players have the freedom to play without the fear of making mistakes, to express themselves using their imagination and to be creative - in other words: be themselves!

We have a squad of mixed ability and stature: they all have their own strengths and areas to work on. The players naturally grow and develop at different rates and we look carefully at the needs of both the individual and the team in terms of overall development.

The kids develop close friendships and we encourage the kids to help each other out because learning from your teammates is a great way to learn.

We operate a rotation policy so all of our players are given equal game time and the teams we field are a mix of abilities. There is no streaming of players into 1st/2nd teams etc.

We use multiple training methods including both one-on-one coaching as well as small-sided games.

Child Protection – We adhere to the RFU’s Safeguarding Guidelines. All our coaches are RFU qualified and hold enhanced DBS (criminal records) checks.

Concussion – any player that receives a knock to the head will be immediately removed from play and will not be allowed to return. We will assess the player and we will, if necessary, recommend that the player is taken for assessment by a medical professional.

We keep an eye on the weather because cold and wet children make unhappy rugby players! Please bring appropriate clothing for the conditions. Please be aware if it gets very cold and/or wet we may stop the session early

For more information please contact:
mrc-ourteam@outlook.com

Or please feel free to turn up at one of our sessions!

You can find us on the outfield of the 2nd XI cricket pitch at the end of the 1st XV pitch.

Hopefully see you there,

John
