Capenhurst proved to be one of the better teams the Spartans have met in a few seasons.

In a idyllic setting outside Chester, and a sunny day the Spartans met a good all round team, the likes of they have not seen in the last couple of seasons in the lower divisions 5 and 4 East. This division 3 South game proved to the Spartans what they will be up against this season on the higher division after promotion last season.

Capenhurst started well and overpowered the Spartans in the fist 20 minutes as the combination of their strong forward runners and pacey back line scored 3 times to lead 24-0. It looked like it might a long afternoon, however the Spartans dug deep and started to compete in the game as their defence worked hard to keep Capenhurst at bay. The Spartans started to create some opportunities themselves but were unable to convert any.

Half time score: 24-0 for Capenhurst.

In the 2nd half the Spartans fought hard and showed a fighting spirit as the game was more even. A couple of breaks by the Spartans were just pulled down short of the try line. Later on in the last 15 minute Capenhurst once again scored two trys through their back line.
In the end the Spartans were beaten by a better team. The positive for the Spartans was the hard work and effort they put in on defence.

Full time score: Capenhurst 38-0 Village Spartans.
