On the opening day of the season the Spartans ran in 11 trys as they overpowered BP3's.

Last season in this same 3rd division the 1’s were defeated heavily twice by BP3’s. There was no repeat in the first game of this season. As the learnings from last season struggles to avoid relegation and a good preseason preparation period put the Spartans in a better place to compete with BP in this game.

The game was even in the first 10 minutes with BP leading 7-5. Then slowly the Spartans started to put together their running rugby, opening up the BP defence to take a 24-7 half time lead.

It was more of the same in the 2nd half as the Spartans gained good possession off a dominant scrum, and solid line out to run in several well worked trys, and with DT’s 82% conversion rate the Spartans ran out easy winners in the end 78-19.

‘One swallow does not make a summer’- So the Spartans will remain grounded as they travel away next week to take on Warrington 3’s, who we last met over 10 years ago in the Spartans formative years.
