Mangos beat Keynsham Town in the Roger Stone Memorial Cup

Our youngsters enjoyed a 3 -0 win over Keynsham Town last night. " The Field" started the match with intent and could have taken the lead in the first minute, but the Keynsham keeper parried a looping header away. Just 2 minutes later some great defensive play from Keynsham, kept the scores level after the keeper had been beaten but the ball was cleared off the line. In the 8th minute the Mangos thought they had been awarded a penalty when the referee pointed at the spot, but after consulting the linesman the infringement was adjudged to have taken place outside of the box. The continued Mangotsfield pressure finally broke the resilience of Keynsham's defensive line when a looping header beat the stranded keeper. "The Field" should have doubled their lead in the 20th min but the shot from 20 yards out flew high over the bar. In a rare excursion to the other end of the pitch Keynsham had, perhaps, their best chance of the game but the shot cleared the crossbar by a couple of feet. just past the half hour mark crossbar at the opposite end denied Mangotsfield their 2nd goal. The illusive 2nd goal finally came in the 37th minute and with just 1 minute of the first half remaining an excellent long run surging past two defenders and then rounding the keeper saw the field take a 3-0 lead into half time.
The 2nd half was a much more even affair, but "the damage" had already been done and despite both sides having a couple of chances each the score remained at 3-0 at the final whistle.
