Tuesday 24th September 2019, The BetVictor Southern League – Division One South Att. 102
Mangotsfield United….1 Winchester City….2
With keeper Marko Radovanovic injured, Manager Ollie Price brought in Liam Armstrong, on loan from Bristol Rovers. Colin Mugoya-Tabingwa also came in at full-back, with Treyvond Anderson unavailable.
Winchester, who had missed out on a play-off place by just a point last season, will be looking to challenge once more. They threatened in the early stages through Keith Emmerson, who sent in a rising drive from 20 yards and brought Armstrong into the game, testing him with high balls into the area, but he dealt comfortably with them.
He was forced to charge from his area to fly-kick away a menacing through ball, but Mangos came back through a Lee Hartshorn long range volley, which keeper Ryan Pryce pushed away. Tom Hillman was causing the Citizens problems with his darting runs, but it was the visitors who took the lead on the stroke of half-time, as Oliver Balmer sidefooted home from close range. 0-1.
HT: 0-1
The hosts paid dearly for their earlier spell, when they had the chances to score, as after 51 minutes, The Citizens went further ahead through Daniel Williamson following a goalmouth scramble. 1-2.
The Mangos were back in the game shortly afterwards. Lee Hartshorn fired over the top and then after 54 minutes, Tom Hillman drove in a strong volley from 18 yards which appeared to take a deflection and deceive Ryan Pryce. 1-2.
Liam Armstrong did well to stop a Winchester break with his legs, but it was mainly Mangos looking for the equaliser. It never came as the visitors defended resolutely, holding on for the points.
FT:1-2
