Saturday 19th October, 2019. The BetVictor Southern League – Division One South Att. 171
Cirencester Town….. 5 Mangotsfield United….0
With thanks to Steve Rolfe for his excellent photograph.
It was another forgettable afternoon for Mangotsfield at the Corinium Stadium, as they tried to improve on a record that now sees just one victory against The Centurions in 13 attempts, home and away.
They had three new signings in full-back Steve Kaca, returning midfielder Tom Llewellyn and striker Jordan Rogers, but were missing defender Keith Kearney.
Cirencester were boosted by the return from injury of Michael Pook, and he controlled the midfield, together with an industrious afternoon from Oliver Hartwell.
Mangotsfield’s main problem is not being able to create enough chances from midfield, and they fell behind after just 14 minutes when Jack Freeman curled the ball in from the edge of the area and it came off the top of a defender's head and into the top corner. 1-0
Moments later, the visitors had a good chance when Lee Hartshorn played in Dan Demkiv, but he sent his shot direct into the arms of keeper Lewis Clayton.
HT: 1-0
At the interval, with just the one goal deficit, the visitors were still in the game, but two goals around the hour mark, finished them off. On 59 minutes, John Dennis bent the ball into the bottom corner (2-0), and three minutes later, a corner to the back post was headed across goal for new signing from Weston-super-Mare, Jay Malshanskyj to have a simple tap-in. 3-0.
Both Demkiv and Harry Simons had chances to have pulled a goal back, but Clayton was equal to the task. With the Mangotsfield defence tiring, Freeman bagged his second with an excellent strike from just outside the box, into the top corner in the 88th minute (4-0), and well into stoppage time, a long ball over the top had the visitors struggling and Malshanskyj was given a simple tap-in for his brace.
Mangotsfield's slide down the table from their earlier lofty heights continues, with no immediate chance of putting things right as they have a blank day on Saturday 26th.
