Promotion favourites Old Yardleians visit the Griff and Coton this Saturday as head coach Lee Maddison’s men go in search of their seventh consecutive win this season.
It was hard going at Welsh, who entered the match having won both of their games so far in Midlands 4 West South.
Good work from winger Jim Aaron and an offload to Michael Clarke saw the centre bundle over the line for Park’s only try.
The returning Lewis Brightmore added 11 points with the boot to keep his side ahead – but possession and territorial dominance were not reflected on the score board.
Missing the talents of last season’s top points scorer and top try scorers Dan Joyce and Aaron Willis along with winger Simon Tunnicliffe, Park struggled to break Welsh’s resilient backfoot defending.
A penalty and a converted try gave the hosts hope, but the visitors held out to claim a deserved, but far from emphatic success.
This Saturday’s opposition Old Yardleians, relegated from the league above last time out, will be a much sterner test of Park’s own promotion credentials.
This is followed by a trip to Nottingham Boots Corsairs in the second round of the Midlands Junior Vase on October 13, before returning to league action with a trip to Harbury (October 20) and hosting Warwickian (October 27).
