Hesketh Golf Club chosen for special event

Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Marine announces the staging of its annual golf day at Hesketh Golf Club in Southport this coming September as part of the Club’s 125 celebrations next season.

Marine Association Football Club was founded in the summer of 1894 by a group of South Road shopkeepers in a meeting held in the Marine Hotel [now Champs bar] in Waterloo with the idea of setting up a football team for their sons. The new football club Marine took its name from the hotel. The golf day is to take place on Monday 2nd September 2019 at the Southport venue and is one of a number of special events planned throughout next season to celebrate 125 years since the Club’s formation.

The cost per team of four has been held again at £395 and includes a 3 course evening meal at which the presentation of prizes will be made to the successful golfers. Registration takes place around midday.

Hesketh is the oldest golf club in Southport, established in 1885. The course is pre-dominantly links in nature and Championship golf has been played at Hesketh from the early days.

In addition to being a previous qualifying venue when The Open was played at nearby Royal Birkdale, Hesketh has hosted many other professional and amateur championships. Most recently, it hosted the Junior Open in 2008 and co-hosted the Amateur Championship with near-by Hillside in 2011.

The golf day is a key fundraising event for Marine and this year again sees teams battling it out for the magnificent Marine FC golf trophy which will be presented by Club Chairman Paul Leary at the awards dinner in the evening.

Any teams interested in entering the tournament should contact Paul Leary on 07855-275722 or by email on learymarine@aol.com Information about Hesketh Golf Club and its superb course and facilities can be found on www.heskethgolfclub.co.uk

Marine Chairman Paul Leary said:
“We have staged our annual golf day for the last two years at Hesketh Golf Club and for this year’s very special 125 tournament we had no hesitation in choosing the same venue as the course, facilities and staff are absolutely first class. I look forward to having a wonderful day to help celebrate, what is, a great achievement for our football club.”
