And if you know your history...

Marine AFC are delighted to add to the website Alan Wilson's extensive and well researched archive of the club's history since the Cheshire League days.

Alan's introduction is reproduced below:

"Although I’ve been recording the results for most of the Northwest’s non-League competitions since 1990, it was only in January 2011 that I decided to gather together the information I had on Marine and store it in one place. Only then did I began to realise just how much of this information had built up over the years.

Almost all of the data for the cup competitions was upto date, yet I hadn’t done anything regarding Marine’s league results for about 10 years. A record in the form of an A to Z of opponents is quite rare as far as football club histories go, but something that really appealed to me. I began to wonder if I could do such a thing myself. It didn’t take long to realise the scale of this idea, and so I thought I’d just use the results, etc, since the club’s entry into the NPL from the 1979-80 season. After a few months of further research I’d finally brought the rest of what I was looking for upto the current season.

I’d attended my first game at College Road in November 1974 for the FA Cup replay with Rochdale, and now I felt I needed to include the Cheshire League years as well. Sadly, my collection of programmes and scrapbooks for this period was inevitably going to produce plenty of gaps, especially for the first five years.

Another part of this project is the listing of the players. Up until a few months ago I’d not kept any records of players at all. Collecting the data for these records however proved particularly enjoyable. Once again there are still some things to be filled-in.

We should therefore, view these files as a work-in-progress.

With the Marine Files appearance as part of this excellent website, I’m hoping some of the many people who follow one of the Northwest’s all-time great non-League clubs, will contribute to the Forum, and leave me plenty of feedback over the forthcoming season....please point out any mistakes and tell me what’s missing."
