Whitby Town 2-1 Marine
By Dave McMillan
Brett nets in Whitby fret...
Marine went down to a narrow defeat on the North Yorkshire coast on Saturday as hosts Whitby Town ran out winners by the odd goal in three.
A sea fret enveloped the Turnbull Ground for much of the game and the sides produced an open game in the Dickensian conditions, with the Blues having the clearer of them, especially in the second half.
Brett Mbalanda put the Mariners in to a 36th minute lead, latching on to a loose ball in the area following a corner before firing a low shot on the turn inside Jack Norton's near post.
Whitby were level inside a minute, Dale Hopson finding the top corner with a well placed free kick from 25 yards.
The game looked likely to end in a draw until Adam Gell won it for the home side after 84 minutes, turning on the right of the penalty area before clipping a measured finish in to the far corner of Joe Hilton's net.
