Marine drew 0-0 at Basford United on Easter Saturday on a glorious day in the Nottingham suburbs.
Neil Young's men were left rueing a host of missed chances throughout the 90 minutes, but also had a couple of escapes at the other end.
Brett Mbalanda might well have left the ground with the match ball after putting three golden chances off target from close range, as the Mariners got behind the hosts on the 3G surface on numerous occasions.
It was Basford though who arguably came closest to scoring in the first half, Matt Thornhill's well flighted free kick from 25 yards coming back off the post with Chris Doyle on hand to clear the rebound away from goal.
The hosts had the ball in the net through Courey Grantham but his effort was chalked off, Joe Hilton appearing to have the ball in both hands before the striker nipped in from near the goal line.
Marine also saw the ball rebound off the frame of the goal, a cross in to the area looping off a defender before hitting the crossbar.
The best chance of the second half came with literally the last kick of the game, substitute Danny Mitchley having a great chance as the ball fell to him at the far post but his volley went over the top of the target.
