First league defeat and second loss in two weeks

Drayton, out of the cup last week needed a reaction with focuses back on the league campaign. MMU have only played one game with a late start to the season being a University side. All in all it was a decent game of football for the neutral, but Drayton not hitting high standards they expect from themselves.

MMU were a very fit and mobile side, as expected with the average age of around 20. However, in such case you would expect experience to be on Drayton's side.

Tigers made a great start to the game and fizzed the ball around for half an hour. They took the lead on 7 minutes with Mike Mackintosh beating two players on the right, cutting inside and sliding a lovely ball through to Daniel Viggars who ran beyond the back 4. From the tightest of angles, Viggars beat the visitors' keeper and put Drayton infront.

Gradually, MMU got themselves into the game, keeping the ball and causing problems with their movement. The HT score was a very fair 1-0.

The second half could not have been any more dissimilar to the first. Drayton never got going, and perhaps scared of defeat like the week before looked to be sitting on the slender lead. This was not the orders given but nervous clearances and a lack of willingness to takle meant an MMU equaliser was only a matter of time. It was 1-1 on 60 minutes when a deflected shot from outside the box left Carl Knott heading the other way as the ball trickled over the line.

Drayton failed to respond and rode their luck on one or two more occasions up t the 70 minute mark. Drayton finally realised that the way through MMU was to put the ball in behind and turn the immobile centre backs. This gave Tigers a number of chances and territory. Again, similar to prior weeks the final product was lacking. On 81 minutes a long throw in was flicked on, finding an MMU player ghost in to the back post completely unmarked to nod home from less than a yard.

FT Score 2-1 to MMU.

Drayton's first loss of the league campaign sees them drop to second in the table. Two losses in as many weeks comes as a result of many things, defensive frailty, unacceptable fitness levels and poor decision making at critical period of the game. Goals have dried up for us scoring just one in each of our last 2 outings, but conceding 5.

Really poor two weeks for Tigers, who have Josh Mackintosh available for Saturday's game against Foley following a 3 match ban. Hopefully this will lift the team and they can begin to put in better performances.
