Drayton come undone

On the back of a couple of straight victories and clean sheets to boot, Drayton headed into last night's home fixture against Carlton Town in fine fettle. An unchanged team was entrusted to carry on the good form that had seen victory over Gresley at Greenfields on Saturday. It just wasn't to be and Drayton looked out of sorts against a Carlton side that were struggling in the bottom 3.

Drayton took the lead in the game on 29 minutes when Cohen Bramall latched onto a great through ball down the left side and rifled in a terrific shot and that remained the score until the interval.

The second half saw Carlton pressing and there was a succession of corners which lead to nothing and although Drayton were being pressed back there was no real clear cut chances being created by the visitors. It looked like Drayton would hold out for victory but that all changed in a 2 minute spell when Carlton were awarded a penalty for a foul in the box on 80 mins which was fired home by Anthony Dwyer. Buoyed by this lifeline the same man got the winner moments later to take the points.

Drayton are in 10th position in the league standings on 36 points, 4 points off the final play-off position and well clear (13 points) of the relegation positions. Saturday sees a tough trip to high-flying Coalville Town who will be looking to take advantage of any slip-up by Stafford Rangers. Looking further ahead, next week we have an important semi-final in the TJ Vickers Cup against AFC Ludlow on neutral territory at Shrewsbury Village with a 19:30 kick-off time.
