Year 2 & 3 children from local Primary Schools.

Market Harborough Rugby Club played host to a Tag rugby event this week. Pupils from Market Harborough C of E, Ridgeway Primary, Little Bowden Primary, Church Langton Primary and Foxton Primary schools took part in the event. All teams played several games of rugby, learning the non-contact version of the sport.

All the children enjoyed their day at the annual 'Tag Rugby World Cup', organised this year by the club's School Liaison Officer, Ian Considine.

Ian summarised the event, saying ’We had a number of visiting teams of children from years 2 and 3. For many of the children, it was the first time that they had ever played rugby. We were fortunate that the weather was on our side and we got to see some excellent play during the afternoon.

As a community-based club, we are devoted to building links with our local schools. Events like this allow us to support the schools in delivering diversity in their P.E. curriculum and enabling the children to have a go at playing this wonderful sport. Rugby truly is a sport for all, and it is clear that the children had a fantastic time playing. Children experiencing the game in this way can lead to a lifelong love for the game. Who knows, it could even lead to the igniting the flame to give us a future Courtney Lawes, Ben Youngs or Sarah Hunter!'

Mini Junior chairman Mike Fletcher added 'I am grateful to Ian, and the Sports Leaders from Robert Smyth Academy who managed the event so well. Any child from school attendance age in reception and upwards can come and try rugby at our club on Sunday mornings at 10am. Pop down and see children having fun.'
