On a warm sunny afternoon, the opening game of the season at Northampton Road saw Harborough 2's take on Mens Own.
The visitors scored an early try, Craig Wilson crossed from a lineout catch and drive. Northampton continued to dominate most phases of forward play in the first twenty minutes. Harborough looked to spin the ball wide at every opportunity but the final pass often went to ground. Harborough tackled well and resisted the breaks around the fringe from Mens Owns forwards.

Harborough started brightly in the second half and
Adam Ball finished a quick hands move from the home team backs. Josh Haynes stepped up to slot the conversion and Harborough led 7-5.
Northampton soon took control again and from a quick penalty Nick Brown scored close to the post with Adam Baker converting.
Harborough's solid defence kept the visitors at bay and gradually they worked their way up the pitch. From a set play Harborough Josh Haynes picked out Andy Jarvis with a short pop pass. A good angled run and side step led to a second home team try.
With the scores level Mens Own camped on Harborough's line and were only denied a try by an unfortunate double movement and great defence by Tom Lee.
The youthful side gave a good account of themselves in this tough contest and Dan Carter's tackling deserves special mention
