Harborough started the clash brightly, making telling incursions into home territory with a combination of good interplay and astute kicking for position. This was quickly rewarded with a penalty by Blair for 0-3 score line after two minutes. But Lutterworth hit back with a try out wide on the right to make the score 5-3. Blair replied with another penalty, 5-6. But the signs were ominous as the home side began to dominate the breakdown area, constantly putting Harborough on the back foot. Scrum half George Wade had to leave the field on twenty minutes after being ‘out cold’ following a ruck on the edge of the Lutterworth 22 metre line. On the stroke of half time, Lutterworth had a chance to regain the lead, but missed the penalty kick.
Apart from a brief spell from the restart, Harborough were second best in all areas, however, Blair extended Harborough’s lead to 5-9. Lutterworth continued to dominate much of the second half and ran in four unanswered tries.
This was Harborough’s heaviest defeat of the season which was made harder to accept given the excellent performances of the previous two weeks.
Forwards coach Mark Thornton said “We have to remain positive and remember we are all working towards a common goal – to be the best we can in whichever team we play. With a number of players unavailable or injured this week, we will need to dig deep in the run up to Christmas. However, the one thing this team has shown in the past is a decent team spirit, I’m sure results will improve”
Phil Jarvis, Club Chairman added “We’re going through a difficult spell with injuries, but there are a number of young players gaining valuable experience in the 1st team. We continue to put out five sides each Saturday and are always developing players for our senior team.
