Harborough Colts final game of 2013 was a National Plate tie against Kettering, a must win game. Harborough started strong capitalising on Kettering mistakes and from a quickly taken penalty Jon Mundy scythed through the defence to touch down with Jake Noble adding the extras for a 7-0 lead. Kettering however proved to be strong opponents and stormed back with a converted try of their own and a penalty took them into a 10-7 lead. Harborough then struck back with a well taken try by Connor Bond to restore their lead but Kettering scored a further try to take a half-time lead 15-12. The visitors added to this with another penalty and cracks were beginning to appear in the Harborough play, conceding a number of penalties and losing territory. But just when Kettering looked to be taking control Harborough struck back with 2 further tries, the first from George Thornton and the second by Alex Haynes that was without doubt the try of the match. This gave Harborough a 26-18 lead but Kettering kept pushing and added a third try and then a penalty brought them level. In the dying moments Kettering were awarded another penalty but the kick was just wide of the posts and the match ended drawn at 26 each. It was Harborough however who progress to the next round as they scored 4 tries to Kettering’s 3 and they now go on to face Syston on January 11th.
