Harborough Colts were away to Old Northamptonians in the National Cup and having secured a 98-0 victory the previous week ON’s expected an easy win. They realised very quickly that this was not to be as Harborough dominated the early play and clearly had ON’s rattled as they took the lead 7-0 through the ever present Ed Parker with Jake Noble converting. Harborough were rampant with the pack dominating with Sam Wellicome and Timmy Waterfield making huge contributions and the backs clearly outplaying ON’s notably through the excellent Jon Mundy and man-of-the-match Fin Clarke who was starting his first game for the club. ON’s struck back with a try but Harborough, despite missing 3 kicks at goal, kept the initiative leading 7-5 at half time. Their dominance continued at the start of the second half but Harborough relaxed and ON’s struck back with a soft try to give them a 12-7 lead. They then kicked 2 penalties as the decision went against Harborough and the match ended with ON’s winning 18-7. This was however a performance to be proud off with Harborough pressing until the end. They now have to be content with the National Plate competition but on this showing they should fear no one.
