Following a disappointing County Cup a few weeks earlier MHRUFC under 10’s travelled to Hinckley for their last outing of the season.

Team - Callum L, Finn C, MattyR, Ethan S, Ben M, Jake T, Dan P, Toby I, Adam M, Alex L, Rowan M, Charlie D and Oliver R

Game 1 MH V Ashby
On paper probably the toughest opponents in MH’s side of the draw, the boys knew they had to start well and couldn’t afford to give the county cup runners up an inch. Ethan S skippered the side, won the toss and promptly battered his way over the try line to open the scoring. Up until half time the boys played open attacking rugby through many phases but lacked the final pass to extend the lead.
The half time talk was all about being more clinical in the oppositions half. With that on board MH worked the ball from deep, through Oliver R and Finn C to put Callum L away. In the closing moment of the game MH let their guard down to concede a late try.

Game 2 MH V Syston
With by far the largest players of any team Syston where next up for MH. Size doesn’t matter for some, and Charlie D and Ben M led the way in scything down the Syston giants limiting them to play off scraps. With the majority of the possession the boys were able to move the ball wide, away from contact and use their speed. Rowan M went over followed in quick succession by Adam M with 2 tries. Ethan burst through for the final try concluding a 4-0 victory.

Game 3 MH V Market Bosworth
MH opened their game against Bos with a try from the kick off with Charlie showing he was in the mood for running and not just tackling. Bos fought back and put MH under pressure, camping on their 5m line for the majority of the period. Ill-discipline was hurting the side and a string of penalties and scrums conceded forced the boys to dig deep to keep the opposition out. MH regained the initiative shortly before half time with a try run out from their own half. Quick hands form Charlie and a clever line from Callum put Finn away to score in the corner.
Two more from Finn put the result beyond doubt seeing a spirited Bos side go down 4-0.

Game 4 MH V Lutterworth
Experience had taught that you don’t under estimate any team from Lutterworth and the boys took their ‘A’ game into the final pool match knowing one more result and they were in the final. A perfect start saw Finn score from the kick off. Quick line speed in defence and more robust tackling limited any chance the opposition was going to have. MH slowly took control with Alex L scoring just before half time.
MH increased the intensity in the second half .Enjoying the majority of the possession further scores came from Adam, his first following a strong run from Finn and a second from a cut out pass from Oliver. Matty R helped himself to a fifth try in the closing minutes.

The Final MH V Oadby
The boys were determined to end the season on a high and set about the final in similar fashion as the previous game. Oliver went down the left hand touch line to register an early score followed by Rowan. Ferocious first up tackles from Ben Marlow and Charlie Dean completely nullified any attacking momentum from the opposition. Bens hard graft was rewarded by a close range try of his own followed just before the break by a long range effort from Callum. More of the same in the second half with Matty Reeves opening up the defence to coast in, followed immediately by Finn. Six try’s up and the ref called time with still 4 mins to play.
The days play had been the perfect climax to the season. Each and every player had contributed to one of the best all round performances of the season. It is clear that with growing maturity the boys are beginning to play a more balanced game of strength speed, skill and brawn.
