This weekend the Menaces continued their season of dominant performances with 2 victories against a solid-looking Leicester Lions side in dry but blustery conditions.
The first fixture started positively, George Williams opening the scoring before a brace from Dan Weston and large periods of dominant possession were answered with only a solitary Lions try, Arthur Adams ensuring another wasn’t scored with an amazing tackle: the half finished 3-1 to the Menaces. The Lions used their substitutes well to add ballast to their team in the second half and were instantly rewarded with dominant possession on the Menaces try line ultimately leading to the opening try of the half. Teagan Beaufoy and Joseph Robinson scored either side of a 2nd Lions try, Menaces not getting low enough in the tackles to make their positional advantage count, however Menaces remained strong enough to deny a Lions try at the death, bundling the player into touch, the match concluding 5-3 to the Menaces and deservedly so.
The second fixture was a lot more open, injury and fatigue taking its toll on both sides resulting in more mistakes occurring. The first half was again dominated by Dan Weston, scoring a hat-trick profiting from some mis-handling by his own team to run the length of the pitch, and George Williamson barrelling through several Lions players to get over the line for his try. Tired tackling allowed Lions to run in 3 tries of their own, the first half finished 4-3 to the Menaces. The physicality of the fixture meant many of the Menaces were carrying knocks and despite a series of further substitutions, they stood-up defensively and remained the sturdier of the 2 sides restricting the Lions to only 1 try having had Dan Weston and George Williamson each add a try to their first half efforts.
The Menaces ran out 6-4 winners in the second fixture, and 2-0 winners on the day. As the season continues, the themes of strong tackling across the squad, tries from the speedy runners, and great support play mean the Menaces remain confident oblivious of the opposition team placed in their way.
