Location: Tor RFC
Kick-off: 3pm
Martock RFC travelled to Glastonbury on Saturday 10th October to face Tor RFC 2XV with a patched up side consisting of 18 players, but due to injuries and unavailability, Martock RFC had to play people out of position. Whilst the players were getting used to their new positions Martock found themselves 14-0 down and were staring at defeat early on in the game. This reality seemed to galvanise everyone and the fightback began with Martock RFC getting a foothold in the game. After a completely dominant forward display Martock’s good play was rewarded with Jordan Beale crossing to reduce the score at halftime 14-5 to Tor RFC. The second half saw Martock RFC take control and keep Tor RFC camped in their 22 for long periods. Eventually Martock’s persistence paid off with a driving maul resulting in a try for Rich Parsons which was converted by Tom Flynn. With 10 minutes to go Martock RFC were awarded a penalty 25 meters out which Tom Flynn kicked to put Martock RFC in the lead. Tor RFC came back strong in the last ten minutes but Martock RFC held firm and defended superbly to ensure the win. This was a very gritty performance and a well-deserved win. This result shows the progress the club is making and the determination of all the players to succeed. If we continue to progress like this we shall be more than Ok this season, and a mid-table finish (if not higher) is not beyond our reach.
