Masters Make History at The Stoop

Warrington Wolves & Dragons Unite

Medway Dragon Masters found unlikely allies in their away game against London at the Stoop in Twickenham last Saturday. Both teams had been asked to participate in Rugby's Super League curtain raiser for Harlequins RL v Warrington Wolves. For most it was a chance of a life time to play on the hallow turf for which so many famous players in the world of Rugby have graced.

Medway Dragon's Kevin O'Brien found himself in acres of space after some neat hand work from the men of Kent to put the ball down over London's try line. But it was the roar of the 200 or so Warrington fans who took up their seats early to witness this thrilling encounter. Master of Masters Ed Baldwin said "we were shocked with not only Kevin scoring but the response from the Warrington fans they were brilliant and cheered us on at every opportunity. I don't think it was because of who we are rather who we were playing but still it was a fantastic experience."

As the rain continued to hammer down the Dragons subs were rubbing shoulders with the Warrington players Chris Bridge Micheal Monaghan and Richie Myler to name a few watched from the side line as the Dragons quick ball and slick passing from Rice,McManus Derbyshire and Cook created a two on one situation as O'Brien went on to score his 2nd try of the game.

By half time London started to apply pressure and took siege upon the Dragons Bastion. Class one defending from Morgan, Finch Stewart and Lowrie kept London at bay but on the 50th minute London's Ken Edwards broke through and grounded the ball over Medways' line, Dragon's Joe Egan kept pace and with support from Davolls managed to force Edwards out, and after referring the decision to the video judge referee Chris Baxter said no try.

Dragons stated to capitalise on London's mistakes as fatigue began to set in the old bones. Making his debut with a try Justin Hollidge put the game out of London's reach scoring after the ball had been received by no less than eight players making it try of the game. Lee Laqaterabua rounding things off ten minutes before the end. Using his strength Lee managed to drive four players back over their owen line and ground the ball for a try. For those taken part this was a truly a memorable occasion.
