Medway Dragons RLFC launched Wheelchair Rugby League in great style at the fantastic Medway Park facility in Gillingham on Wednesday 02 March 2011.

The Dragons launched another amazing chapter in their story with the 2011 launch of Wheelchair Rugby League. This incredible sport, where disabled athletes compete on equal terms with non-disabled athletes, has gripped peoples imagination in Medway and Kent. Fast, furious, tough, skillful, fun and huge excitement, it is open for all.

The Dragons train on Wednesdays at Medway Park and have received fantastic support from Medway Council and Kent Sport, Olympics and Leisure, ensuring that there is high quality equipment available in world class facilities.

The Dragons Wheelchair squad is preparing to play in the National Wheelchair RL Championship and will face legendary names like Bradford Bulls, Wakefield and Mersey Vikings. Closer to home, The Dragons are blazing a trail for clubs in Brighton, London and Swindon.

There is a very exciting and accesible Performance Pathway for Wheelchair RL athletes and Regional Development Centres are set up this year, where high performing players will be given intensive skills coaching and development. The prize is an England shirt. 2013 will see the UK hosting the Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup.

Dragons Head Coach Martin Coyd said 'This is a dream start, Community RL Coach Mark Roughsedge has done a great job so far and is delivering great sessions. Our goal, our dream, is for players from Medway Dragons to play a part in the 2013 World Cup. We took the first step towards that tonight'
