4 point games are bad for the blood pressure!

Saturday 28th July Medway Dragons travelled to the North West to play St Helens to attempt to avenge a 120-18 defeat at home in early June.

A tense opening 15min period in which both teams battered each others try line with completed set after completed set, both defences held firm until St Helens broke through to score the first try of the afternoon which was converted by Saints Captain Paul Craig.

The rest of the half was dominated by Medway who recovered to go into half time 24-12 up.

The second half was a more open affair as fatigue and a steady stream of technical penalties for both sides, lead to tries being traded at regular intervals.

Saints chipped away at Dragons lead and took it for only the 2nd time in the match to lead 42-40 with just 5mins to go!

Dragons regained their composure and energy in the closing exchanges, again gaining control through dominating the bigger side physically by fierce chair on chair contact in attack and dogged desperate defence.

The decisive moment came when St Helens knocked on a few metres from their own try line and Medway took this opportunity with both hands with Captain Joe Coyd scoring under the sticks leaving a simple, if high pressure kick, for Aaron Thomas who converted with ease!

Saints kicked off again but Medway held on to the deep restart. It was all over for St Helens at the hooter Medway Dragons had won 42-46.

A much improved all round performance as Dragons recorded their first win of season and first away win in over 3yrs!
