Comfortable win against Bishopthorpe in final Foss game of season

Bishopthorpe 97-7, Melbourne 102-5

With dark skies overhead Melbourne who had lost against Bishopthorpe in their York Vale fixture just 5 days earlier opened the bowling with Brian Underwood and Robin Miller, Miller took an early wicket when he bowled Deamer [5] and Underwood dismissed Angus Bindloss in the third over to put Bishopthorpe on 10-2. A 47 run partnership between Riley and Blackburn followed which looked dangerous however Harry Collins took a superb catch off the bowling of Scott Coupland to dismiss Riley for 15. Coupland took another wicket in his next over, that of Mercer [7] thanks to a catch by brother James Coupland. Simon Houlder notched up 3 wickets from his 4 over spell - Guy Mowbray [5] whom he caught and bowled, Seagar [4] caught by Scott Coupland and Smith who was clean bowled. Houlder also featured in the final 2 wickets to fall - Blackburn [38] who he caught off the bowling of Harry Collins and Clapham [11] who he caught off the bowling of Underwood to close the Bishopthorpe innings on 97.

In reply Melbourne lost the early wicket of Robin Miller [2] who was caught by Clapham off the bowling of Riley. Freddie Collins [14] smashed 2 sixes off the bowling of Ian Holmes but Holmes had his revenge the same over when he was stumped by the keeper. Opener James Coupland was in fine form but was run out in the 8th over after making an excellent 28. Harry Collins made a good 18 before being caught by Holmes off the bowling of Seagar in the 10th over. With Melbourne on 85-5 Si Houlder joined Oliver Steels the two made the most of any loose ball and Houlder despatched a ball for 6 in the 12th over to bring Melbourne a well deserved victory that will see them finish in joint 3rd position in the league. Steels finished on 22* and Houlder on 8*
