Melbourne travelled to The Riverside in good spirits after their Foss win over Stockton and Hopgrove earlier in the week. Tim Blackmore and James Coupland had put 43 on the board by the 9th over when Coupland was bowled by Lawson. The following over Blackmore was bowled at the other end off the bowling of M Walker after making 36. Oliver Steels joined Matt Beevers and after a steady start the two started to despatch any loose ball - in the next 20 overs the two added a further 124 runs to the board before Steels was bowled by J Atkinson after making a good 39. Beevers was joined by Ben Thompson and the runs continued to come. Beevers was rewarded for his patience as he knocked up his century in the 38th over. Beevers finished the 40 overs on 109* and Thompson on 25 after sharing a partnership of 77
In reply Kelfield openers Neil Atkinson and Craig Lawson knocked 92 of the required runs in the first 19 overs before Melbourne reverted to using their spin bowlers. They were rewarded within 2 overs when Atkinson was caught by Thompson off the bowling of Miller. 3 overs later M Walker was bowled by Harrison when he was caught by Beevers. B Atkinson and Lawson added a further 36 runs before Atkinson was caught by Beevers off the bowling of Miller. Kelfield lost wickets at regular intervals as Miller went on the bowl a further 3 players and Harrison bowled another 3. Only Lorryman who made 33 seemed to be any danger. Kelfield were dismissed in the 36th over for 162 - 86 runs short of the required runs.
Melbourne bowling: R Miller 10.1-1-35-5, M Harrison 9-0-38-4
