The boys travelled away to Southwell in a quickly arranged fixture - Paviors pulling out of the original tie due to a double-booking :-(

This was the second visit to the red-men this season and the pitch was as bad as it was before - lots of heavy mud for the boys to contend with, but with a good turnout from the boys, the squad was in good shape.

The boys started going with the slope in the first half and quickly put pressure on the opposition with some bustling defence and excellent counter rucking. Without playing the level of rugby we know the boys can, Mellish were up 3-0 at half time, with some good defensive work neutralising any decent possession that the home team had. The occasional handling mistake and poor pass limited the number of tries but the Mellish side ended the first half well.

With 6 changes made at half time, some structure was lost but not the enthusiasm - the odd fly-hack and kick from hand giving the possession away, however, another couple of tries were scored by the Mellish team. Some opportunities were lost due to alignment at the break down - the boys too flat to receive the ball at pace, making it a little easier for the opposition to make an effective tackle. Some loose play saw Southwell get close to the line for the last play of the game, and despite an off-load that looked a tad forward, the home side managed to score for the first time in the game. The final score 5 tries to 1 for the visitors.

Some good performances today but stand out once again - and not just for his 3 tries - was Jacob. Once again, great work rate in attack and defence.
